The Fantasmic Dinner Package, Is It Worth It?

During our most recent visit to Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios we decide to try the Fantasmic Dinner Package. Our reasons for doing so was that we wanted to have good seats for viewing the show, and we wanted to sit near the back so we could rush out afterwards to get a good spot for the Star wars Fireworks. Here is what we discovered.

1. Restaurants

The participating restaurants are Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, Hollywood and Vine and the Hollywood Drown Derby. We chose Mama Melrose’s because we love Italian and it was the least expensive. The theming was beautiful and the food was great. Included with the price, each person gets a drink, an appetizer, delicious bread, your main dish and a dessert sampler. If you have the Disney Dinning plan you can you it to purchase the Fantasmic Dinner Package. Hollywood & Vine and Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano each cost one credit per person. The Brown Derby costs two credits.

2. Cost

The price seems to fluctuate frequently depending on what time of year you visit. We paid $103.85 for the two of us, which felt reasonable considering the amount of food they give you. We each ate our appetizer and some of our main dish, and we brought the rest back for a second meal the next day. We are both light eaters, but I’m pretty sure most people would have some leftovers.

3. The Show

Fantasmic is great, I’ve seen it several times and each time I love it. This was the first time I was able to sit in the center section reserved for those with the dinner package. I’m not sure what I was hoping for, but I didn’t feel like it added that much to the show. The view is just as good in the other sections, as long as your view isn’t obstructed by one of the poles. If you are worried about getting to the Star Wars fireworks after Fantasmic, don’t be. We got there in plenty of time.

4. Is It Worth It?

That is up to you! In the past we’ve ate to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Dinner and took our chances with seats. We had just as good of a time and got wonderful seats for much less money. So if your reason for doing the dinning package is to get good seats, it would be a waste.  However, if you’re going to be eating at a restaurant featuring the dinner package anyway, or you don’t want to get to Fantasmic thirty minutes early to ensure a good seat, then you might as well go for it. All in all, I felt like paying $51 per person for what turned out to be dinner for two nights was very reasonable.
